Logan HuffmanInterview: Logan Huffman Talks About V Season 2!

by Craig Byrne

Tyler Evans is a character that divides many people - either they love him, hate him, or are completely indifferent. One thing that is definite, though, is that the actor that plays him, Logan Huffman, is a really nice guy who understands Tyler and hopes the best for him.

Here's another interview from the V set visit roundtable, we share some words with Mr. Huffman. The premiere airs in just one week (January 4!), and you can find new interviews here on VisitorSite.net on Monday and Tuesday next week. Past interviews can be found at the bottom of this page.

Please do not reproduce this interview on other websites. If you would like to re-post this, please e-mail and ask permission before posting.

When we last saw V, Anna had just unleashed red skies over all of Earth. "People are going crazy," Logan tells us about the start of Season 2. "They think it's the end of the world. It's the most Biblical thing that could possibly happen. And then more stuff happens because of it. Like it always does, there's a bit of a surprise with it; what it is and what it does," he says.

The events that begin the season also will cause more inevitable conflict between Tyler and his mother, Erica. "I think for the first time, you see justification for Tyler running the opposite direction of his mother," Logan says."She makes bad moves this season, and I think that's what's making him stray away even more."

This friction between mother and son will take Tyler closer to the series' other mother figure, Anna (Morena Baccarin). Logan hints that there is a specific reason that Anna might have an interest in him, "I don't know how much I can tell you, but I can tell you that there's something different about Tyler that makes him very, very usable for the V's. So, Anna needs him to be safe. Anna needs him to be protected. Her whole plan [why they're here] might rely on Tyler."

On the other side of things, Anna's daughter, Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) seems to be working closer with Erica and the Fifth Column. Tyler is one of the few characters who doesn't know about this development. "Tyler doesn't know anything about anybody," Logan laughs. "He is finally the one man left in the dark by now. But, you know, in a lot of ways, he's the foremost expert of humanity who knows about V technology right now, because Anna's allowing him to see stuff. He likes to tinker with stuff. I can't wait for the next episode [Episode 5 was the next episode to shoot at the time of this interview], because I really get to tinker with big stuff."

It's not a challenge for Logan to know things as an actor that his character doesn't seem to know. "It becomes natural. I believe that acting is controlled schizophrenia. He's someone - we get along pretty well. We fought a lot at the beginning, but now we're starting to see eye to eye with things. I don't know how to explain it, but I just kind of turn me off; I turn off my accent, and I get into the Tyler zone. But, you know, the hard thing about television, is you just don't know everything about the past of your character, and now things are starting to be revealed to me about what's going on with him, and hopefully more, and I kind of get to know him a little bit better every day," he explains. " I used to play bad guys before I got Tyler. I know they were small roles, but I usually played the creep. So finally, I think Tyler will finally get to be the bad guy. Now the audience will really have a reason to hate him. He's a great kid, and I don't want to tell anybody that I never really liked him, because I love him, but I'm an impatient young man, and I want to see his potential. At the beginning, it was just establishing who this guy is and where he stands with his mother. But I think people will dislike him for a whole 'nother reason that's far more palatable to me, personally."

"He's moving to the Dark Side," he reveals of his character's future, almost seeming to reference Elizabeth Mitchell's Anakin Skywalker comment that he wasn't even in the room for. "Anna becomes more nurturing. She ends up taking care of more than his mother could. It's like your hero is there, and your heroes extend their hand. If Don Knotts said 'I'll be your best buddy,' I'll follow Don Knotts before I'd follow my father. Anna's this goddess, and you listen to your goddess," he says.

All of these interactions with the V's seem to have left a character from the show's early episodes in the dust. So whatever did happen to Tyler's best friend, Brandon? "His name is Jesse Wheeler, and he's a hell of an actor, and I want him back. He makes the shooting day so much fun. We still hang out," Logan says. "I don't know what happened. He went to college? What show was it where the sister walked up the stairs and never returned? That's exactly what it is. But they do that in television. In the Andy Griffith Show, Floyd the Barber was a fat bald guy in the first season. They do that. But hopefully Brandon can come back, because he was a lot of fun. I don't know. The show got really serious, really quick. I would like it to be a little bit more comic relief, because that's fun. I don't know. I wish he could come around. I would like for him just to have one good death scene, because he's a hell of an actor."

One actor who is coming around for Season 2 is Jane Badler, who played the diabolical Diana in the original series and is returning to the franchise now in the role of Anna's mother, also named Diana. Logan did not know how to react upon their first meeting. "She played this scary woman," he recalls, "and I didn't know. Our cast literally gets along better than anybody on television, and you never know when there's another person coming in. I was like 'What's going to happen'?"

When Logan met Jane Badler, however, it was an immediate connection. "I gave her a hug, and I took her out to my favorite bar," he says. "I would love to do a scene with Jane. She's phenomenal. She's really a powerful actress, and plus, in numerology, we're the exact same numbers, so that's pretty good."

Does the fact that Logan hasn't shot a scene with Jane imply that Anna doesn't trust Tyler too much yet? "She hasn't shown him much yet, but it's coming along. What she's doing but she's getting him to completely trust her, and completely be with her," Logan explains. "I would love to work with Jane. She would be marvelous. I've worked with a few people. I get closer to Father Jack; that should be interesting, in a matter of speaking."

Logan wouldn't tell us more about the Father Jack connection, but his relationship with another father will be explored again. "I know that Joe, his father, is coming back. Nick is coming back. I can't wait to work with him, because he helped me piece together a lot of stuff. I don't know yet, because we're only four episodes in, and they don't tell us anything. They really don't. But what they've told me at the beginning of the season is that we would dive into it, and I can't wait, because I just want to know more about him. I don't even know if he is my real father. I'm just as in the dark as anyone else," he says.

v red rainThe actor playing Tyler Evans is aware that his character wasn't for everyone, especially online. "They would say stuff, and it hurt terribly at the beginning, but you've got to learn there's a hazing process. People might dislike my character, but all it takes is time and me doing the best job I possibly can," he says. "We'll see what people think this season. I doubt that people will come flocking to me, and say 'hey, great job," because I'm the new guy. I'm the easiest target. So, take a swing. I'll just survive and keep on going."

"I hate the idea of criticizing people's work, because all humanity is beautiful. Even if it's poorly executed, it's still beautiful. So all I have to do is work on my craft and maybe, hopefully, people will start to like me, but they might not like my character," he says.
